Logan County Historical Society
The mission of the Logan County Historical Society is to conduct its activities in a manner which shall serve to preserve and to perpetuate the history of Logan County and its people.
Founded in 1974 the Logan County Historical Society is responsible for the preservation and restoration of historic buildings and places in Logan County, Oklahoma with particular emphasis on Guthrie OK. Guthrie is a National Historic Landmark and one of The National Historic Trust's "Dozen Distinctive Destinations" (Awarded to Guthrie in 2004).
The architectural significance of the Guthrie Historic District was the inspiration for the LCHS annual presentation of The Foucart Award for excellence in restoration and preservation. This prestigious honor is presented to building owners each year at the Society's Annual Banquet and has become a benchmark for excellence and a coveted prize for it's recipients.
The Foucart Award, named after noted architect Joseph Foucart, is also given to individuals whose contributions to preservation and restoration have proven to be worthy of recognition.
In 2003, The Logan County Historical Society dedicated itself to restoring a series of 22 historic markers in the Guthrie Historic District which had begun to deteriorate.
Located throughout the District these markers give valuable detailed information about the building's history and architecture.
